 Job Summary

  • The Bar Utility is a vital member of the bar team on a cruise ship. They are responsible for assisting bartenders and ensuring the smooth operation of the bar area. The Bar Utility performs various support tasks to maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficiency in the bar department.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Cleanliness and Organization:

    • Clean and sanitize bar equipment, glassware, utensils, and workstations.
    • Maintain cleanliness of bar counters, shelves, and storage areas.
    • Stock and replenish bar supplies, including napkins, straws, stirrers, and condiments.
    • Ensure proper storage and rotation of beverages, garnishes, and perishable items.
    • Dispose of trash and recycling in designated areas.
  2. Assistance to Bartenders:

    • Assist bartenders in preparing and garnishing drinks.
    • Retrieve and replenish bar stock, such as liquor bottles, mixers, and ice.
    • Restock and organize garnishes, fruit trays, and other bar supplies.
    • Collect and clean used glassware and utensils.
    • Operate and maintain bar equipment, such as blenders, coffee machines, and soda dispensers.
  3. Customer Service:

    • Provide excellent customer service by promptly and courteously assisting guests.
    • Serve non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to customers in the bar area.
    • Clear empty glasses and plates from the bar area and tables.
    • Follow responsible service of alcohol guidelines and assist in monitoring guest intoxication levels.
  4. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations and policies.
    • Follow proper food handling and storage procedures.
    • Report any maintenance issues or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
    • Attend safety training sessions and follow emergency procedures as instructed.

 Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a bar or hospitality setting.
  • Knowledge of basic drink recipes, bar equipment, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Basic math skills for cash handling and inventory management.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
