 Job Summary

  • As a Café Attendant on a cruise ship, your primary responsibility is to provide excellent customer service and maintain a high standard of quality in the ship's café. You will assist in the smooth operation of the café, serving guests, preparing food and beverages, and ensuring a clean and inviting environment. Your role is crucial in creating a positive experience for guests and promoting customer satisfaction.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Customer Service:

    • Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
    • Take orders, answer questions, and make recommendations on food and beverage options based on guest preferences.
    • Provide attentive service, ensuring guests' needs are met promptly and courteously.
    • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and requests, resolving issues to the best of your ability or escalating them to a supervisor when necessary.
    • Maintain a positive and friendly attitude, striving to exceed guest expectations.
  2. Food and Beverage Preparation:

    • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, tea, juices, and specialty drinks.
    • Handle food items, such as pastries, sandwiches, salads, and desserts, ensuring proper food handling and hygiene practices.
    • Follow standardized recipes and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality of food and beverage products.
    • Assist in the preparation of food items, including cutting fruits, assembling sandwiches, or plating desserts.
    • Maintain knowledge of menu items and ingredients to address guest inquiries and accommodate special dietary needs.
  3. Cleanliness and Maintenance:

    • Ensure the café area is clean, organized, and well-maintained at all times.
    • Set up and arrange tables, chairs, and displays in an appealing and functional manner.
    • Clean and sanitize tables, counters, display cases, and equipment regularly.
    • Monitor and clean coffee machines, blenders, grinders, and other equipment to ensure proper functioning.
    • Perform routine cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces, following sanitation procedures and health regulations.
  4. Cash Handling and Reporting:

    • Handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently, including taking orders, processing payments, and providing change to customers.
    • Maintain cash registers or use point-of-sale systems to record sales and track inventory.
    • Prepare daily sales reports, balancing cash at the end of each shift, and submit them to the supervisor or accounting department.
    • Follow established procedures for cash handling, including opening and closing cash registers and handling discrepancies.
  5. Teamwork and Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with other café attendants and ship crew members to ensure efficient operations.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, reporting any issues or concerns.
    • Assist other departments as needed, such as helping with food service in other areas of the ship.
    • Participate in cross-training initiatives to gain knowledge and skills in other shipboard operations.

 Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a café, coffee shop, or food service environment is preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage and interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage preparation techniques and standards.
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and maintain cash registers.
  • Basic math skills for cash handling and inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items if required.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and food handling practices.
