 Job Description

  • As a Utility Stores Staff member on a cruise ship, your primary responsibility is to assist in the efficient operation of the ship's utility stores. You will be part of a team responsible for maintaining and managing the inventory, stocking shelves, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the ship's retail outlets.

 Responsibilities

  • Inventory Management: Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing merchandise in the utility stores. Maintain accurate inventory records, track stock levels, and report any discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Stocking and Display: Ensure that the shelves and displays in the utility stores are well-stocked, organized, and visually appealing. Regularly check inventory levels and restock merchandise as needed to maintain product availability.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to passengers and crew members. Assist customers in locating products, answer inquiries about products, prices, and promotions, and handle any customer concerns or complaints in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Cash Handling: Process sales transactions accurately using the ship's point-of-sale system. Handle cash, credit card payments, and issue receipts to customers. Reconcile cash register at the end of each shift and report any discrepancies.
  • Merchandising: Assist in implementing merchandising strategies to maximize sales and promote products effectively. Participate in promotional activities, sales campaigns, and events to attract customers and boost sales.
  • Housekeeping: Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the utility stores, including shelves, displays, and storage areas. Regularly dust, clean, and organize merchandise and display areas to create an inviting shopping environment.
  • Safety and Security: Adhere to all safety and security protocols to ensure the well-being of customers, crew, and merchandise. Follow proper procedures for handling and storing hazardous materials or products.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with other members of the utility stores team, as well as other departments such as purchasing, logistics, and finance, to ensure smooth operations. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and address any issues or concerns.

 Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and cash handling procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling and inventory management.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift and carry heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Familiarity with the ship's safety procedures and regulations is an asset.
